In Plastering the term Skimming means to use a finishing plaster (sometimes referred as “Top coat plastering”) either on existing walls or ceilings or on new plasterboard. Skimming is used by a plasterer to create a smooth, seamless, gloss finish, which when it has dried will be ready to receive a decorative treatment such as being painted or wall papered.

Dry lining (sometimes known as drywalling) is a process used by plasterers to stick plasterboard to brickwork in internal walls and ceilings using the dot and dab technique. Dry Lining can also be fixed to a timber or metal framework for example in an partitioned wall or new stud wall. Generally Dry lining does not require as much technical expertise as traditional plastering and requires very little water, hence the term ‘dry’ lining

Polished plaster is mainly used internally, on walls and ceilings, to give a finish that looks like polished marble, travertine, or limestone. Such plasters are usually applied over a primer and basecoat base, from one to four layers. They are finished (burnished) with a specialised steel trowel to a smooth glass-like sheen. Polished plaster is usually sealed with a protective layer of wax.

Application of wet basecoats such as Sand & Cement, Hard Wall, bonding Onto brick or block work to straighten walls in preparation to receive finish plaster.
